I was wondering if last weekend was a fluke. I wanted to see if it was really about the bike. I wanted to see if having the right gearing and having a lighter bike would be the difference. I'm the first person to say it's not about the bike, which is why I kept racing on my surly crosscheck. So I counter-acted the borrowed demo bike with the facts that I rode to the race and I was doing the elite race. So, the race. I went off the front within the first quarter lap. I won the first lap prime. At this time, I got a little too confident and started taking everything way too fast. I slipped out on one of the grassy downhills. My tire slipped out again on one of the climbs, which would have been totally rideable on another set of tires. It was slippery, and the demo-bike definitely did not have the right tires for this race. At my second major slip out, Kristy came around me, and I spent the whole race trying to catch her. But I still ended up 2nd, in races I was getting dead last in (ahem... hillbilly hustle) a few weeks ago.
Next week, I'm receiving a special present. Just in time for my birthday too! I'm receiving a loaner crossbike for the rest of the season. Oh shit, I guess this means I should learn how to dismount properly. Maybe even learn how to shoulder a bike? Maybe?

Great Result! Way to go!

Congrats, Lenore! Sorry I missed your race--family obligations. I fell at least four times and watched riders pass me. It was a comedy of terrors, but a learning experience.
